Kids will have opportunities to join a nature-themed sing-a-long, enjoy a variety of earth-oriented activities and games, and climb up in Public Works’ big trucks at the City’s annual Arbor and Earth Day celebration:

The annual event, which dates back to 2007, celebrates the nearly 9,000 trees the Public Works Department maintains in Piedmont’s parks and public spaces – as well as the City’s commitment to environmental stewardship.

For this year’s event, the City is teaming up with East Bay Children & Nature, an Emeryville-based organization dedicated to fostering stronger connections with nature in children.

Featuring:

• Create-with-nature activities: East Bay Children & Nature’s signature, “create-with-nature” stations invite creativity and curiosity through play with natural materials.
• Sing-a-longs: Two 20-minute sessions of nature-themed music, starting at 4:15pm and 5:10pm.
• Public Works big trucks: See the equipment Public Works staff uses daily in their work to keep Piedmont’s trees and public spaces healthy and beautiful – including the Bay Area’s first fully electric closed-circuit TV sewer inspection van. Children will be able to climb up and sit in the cab of the trucks.
• Raffle: Kids can enter to win a children’s book or toy related to Arbor and Earth Day themes.
• Plant giveaways: Attendees will offer an opportunity to take home a California native plant for their gardens.
• Ask-an-arborist: Two professional arborists will be on hand to answer all your tree questions.

Heritage Trees to be announced at event

The Arbor Day celebration will also feature the announcement of the 2026 class of Piedmont Heritage Trees. Nominators of selected trees will be recognized at the event and receive a Piedmont Heritage Tree lapel pin.

The Heritage Tree program, now in its eighth year, aims to raise awareness of and appreciation for Piedmont’s diverse urban forest. Heritage Trees are nominated by community members and selected by the Park Commission. This year, the City received five nominations for Heritage Trees.
