Moraga Canyon Sports Fields Project

At the City Council meeting on November 19, 2012, Mayor John Chiang announced that the City of Piedmont has reached and executed an agreement with the Friends of Moraga Canyon (FOMC) to settle the lawsuit brought by that organization regarding the CEQA process for the Blair Park element of the Moraga Canyon Sports Fields Project. Blair Park, LLC and the Piedmont Recreational Facilities Organization (PRFO) have also joined in the settlement.

The Final Project Proposal (15MB) for the Moraga Canyon Sports Fields Project as submitted by the Piedmont Recreational Facilities Organization, is currently available for public review. The document is 37 pages long and contains both written and graphical representations of the proposed project. Hard copies of the proposal are available in City Hall for inspection.

On December 5, 2011, the City Council approved the Blair Park element of the Moraga Canyon Sports Fields Project and rejected the Coaches Field element of the same project. Along with approving the Blair Park element, the Council passed several conditions of approval for the project. The Council did not act on a proposed site lease for the construction of the Blair Park element, continuing that matter to a future meeting. On December 9, 2011, the official Notice of Determination was filed with the Alameda County Recorder’s office. Click to view documents for theDecember 5, 2011 City Council Meeting.

On May 7, 2012, the Piedmont City Council approved a resolution to formally rescind the approval granted for the Blair Park element of the Moraga Canyon Sports Fields Project. This action, recommended by the City Administrator and the City Attorney, terminates the Blair Park Component of the Moraga Canyon Sports Fields Project as proposed by the Piedmont Recreational Facilities Organization.  The Coaches Field element of the project was previously disapproved at the Council meeting of December 5, 2011.
