Recreation Department: Schoolmates Program

Program Overview

Schoolmates is a fee-based program that provides before and after school child care for elementary school aged children (grades K - 5) during the academic school year and full day care during the summer and vacation periods. Schoolmates classrooms are located at each of the three elementary schools in Piedmont: Beach, Havens and Wildwood. A licensing packet is required to enroll into the Schoolmates program. New families can stop by their designated Schoolmates site to complete a licensing packet and receive instructions for online registration. For more information regarding Schoolmates, please contact Recreation Supervisor, Erin Rivera, or your Schoolmates Site Coordinator (listed below):

Program Information

The Piedmont Recreation Department is excited to offer online registration for Schoolmates! Your family will have the ability to register and/or add hours to your child’s Schoolmates enrollment at the calendar rate (at $7.50/hour), up to 12 hours in advance (24 hours during holiday breaks and summer). This means that as your family needs extended care, you will be able to register as needed.

As a reminder, credit is NOT given at Schoolmates, with the exception of sick leave or family emergencies (see Schoolmates handbook for more details). Once you register for hours, you cannot remove them. While your family will be able to add dates using the newly implemented system, any adjustments to your child’s online calendar, such as sick credit, can only be processed by Recreation Department Staff.

Online accounts are required to register for Schoolmates. Parents with existing online accounts can start registering right away! For newly requested accounts, it can take up to 24 hours in advance to authorize. Do not delay in registering for an account and taking advantage of registering at the calendar rate.

If you have any questions in regards to Schoolmates registration, please contact the Recreation Department via phone at (510) 420-3072 or email Erin Rivera and Jessica Pomey at or .
